Industry Consensus Standard (ICS)
Consensus standards are recommended engineering practices, that are not regulations, but sometimes adopted as, or referenced in law by regulatory authorities. Consensus standards are written by recognized standards development organizations or industry associations, and are applied to a variety of applications, including siting, design, construction and testing of components, equipment, or facilities. Consensus standards help industry establish uniformity of equipment, services, processes and facilities to help ensure safety in the applications in which they are applied.
