U.S. Department of Agriculture

Image of corn and soy fieldsThe U.S. Department of Agriculture (USDA) programs that promote development of renewable energy and support hydrogen development are coordinated under the Biobased Products and Bioenergy Coordination Council (BBCC). Hydrogen related activities are mainly associated with sustainable production of biomass feedstock and with conversion of agricultural and forestry biomass to ethanol and other liquid hydrogen carriers and to hydrogen. USDA hydrogen related research is conducted by the Agricultural Research Service (ARS), the in-house research arm of the USDA; the Cooperative States Research Education and Extension Service (CSREES), which supports research, education, and extension programs in the Land-Grant University System and other partner organizations; and the Forest Service (FS), which supports national forests and grasslands.
